Windows 7 has a great deal of functionality to it, so you can take their “out of the box” software and customize it to fit your needs greater. One way to do this is to install a custom theme, making the total appearance of the software look different. These can be based on your likings, such as sports, music, games, etc. Windows 7 does come with preloaded themes, but plenty of websites offer free themes to download online.
First, you need to find a theme you would like. Do a keyword search on Google for Windows Theme Downloads. Find a site and search through the available themes until you find one you like, and download it. Once it has downloaded, select “Open with Themepackfile” and click OK. This will open the Windows Personalization Window. The theme you just downloaded will be highlighted. Simply click Desktop Background at the bottom of the window, and the theme you downloaded will now be your desktop background. You may now close the personalization window.
Once you have downloaded more than one theme, they can easily be changed right on your desktop. To do this, right click your desktop and select “Personalize”. You can then toggle between the different themes you have downloaded and ones Windows has by default until you find the perfect one!
Something important to note is that Microsoft does not allow a user to modify the shell of Windows 7, such as Windows Taskbar. If your file extension is not a.themepack file, you will have to download a theme patcher that will patch files onto your computer, and then can be set as your theme. You must have Administrator rights to be able to accomplish this!
